There would be no BMTR without our equine partners. Many participants and volunteers form close bonds with particular horses. Please let us know if you would like to ride/visit a particular horse when scheduling a therapeutic riding or mental health session and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Our Current Equine Staff
Dante
Dante is a champagne colored Tennessee Walker gelding and is the herd’s head gelding. While he is the newest horse in the BMTR herd, joining in August 2023, he comes to us with years of experience in therapeutic riding. Being a Tennessee Walker he has a quick walk with a long stride.
Coco
Coco is a coca-colored (sticklers might call her color bay) miniature mare and mother to Picasso. Her special skill is driving; that’s right, this wonderful little lady is trained to pull a cart.
Sunshine
Sunshine is BMTR’s head mare who rules the pasture with Dante. She is an Appaloosa who rides English and Western.
Sundance
Poor Sundance was replaced as head gelding with Dante joined the herd and has returned to hanging out with fellow chestnut, Fancy.
Cammy
Cammy is a chestnut Haflinger mare with beautiful flaxen mane. She is always curious to see what you are up to incase it involves food.
Picasso
Picasso is a miniature paint gelding. In fall 2023 he officially became a therapy horse.
Patches
Patches is a Paint Arabian cross gelding. He is a sweetheart and one of the older gentleman in the pasture. He loves being groomed and will love you forever if you remember to give his face a good scratch.
Captain
Don’t tell him he’s a cat! If you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of Captain as he patrols the pastures.
Prior Staff
These wonderful horses are no longer with BMTR, but they, and their contribution to our community, will never be forgotten.
Caesar
Cesar was a Norwegian Fjord gelding. He was bred in Montana in 1997 and raised in Oregon prior to coming to BMTR. He was jack of all trades trained to ride English, Western, bareback and to drive. He was laid to rest in fall 2023 due to Cushings disease.
Scout
Scout was an Appaloosa gelding. With his sweet nature, Scout occupied the bottom of the herd hierarchy with his best buddy Patches. Scout was laid to rest in fall 2023 after battling cancer.
Boots
Boots was a miniature mare who past away in a pasture accident in July 2022. She styled her hair to look like Tina Turner’s and was Button’s best friend.
Cleopatra
Cleopatra was a Norwegian Fjord mare who was raised alongside Caesar. She was bred in Montana in 1997 and raised in Oregon prior to coming to BMTR.
Loki
Loki was leased from a local family to participate in therapeutic riding sessions.
